Nana Yeboah: A Gospel Voice Rooted in Highlife and Faith

Born Bernard Kwame Yeboah in Dormaa Babianeha and named after his grandfather, Nana Yeboah’s story is one of talent, faith, survival, and purpose. Although originally from the Bono Region, he was raised in Koforidua in Ghana’s Eastern Region by the legendary highlife musician Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy, whose influence played a major role in shaping his musical journey. Coming from a deeply musical background, Nana Yeboah also inherited his gift naturally from his father, who was a live band musician.
His musical journey began as a secular musician, but his earliest foundation was built in the church choir. It was there that he recorded his very first gospel song and discovered a deeper spiritual connection to music. Although he always had a strong passion for highlife music, he later recorded a gospel album during his stay in Australia.
Driven by his love for highlife, Nana Yeboah eventually connected with the late legendary highlife icon Dr. Paa Bobo. The legendary musician was deeply impressed by Nana Yeboah’s instrumental abilities and welcomed him into his band. After hearing him perform a gospel song at a live event, Dr. Paa Bobo encouraged him to fully dedicate himself to gospel music instead of highlife. That advice became a turning point in his life and marked the true beginning of his gospel ministry.
Today, Nana Yeboah lives in Germany, where he balances music with his professional career. He also owns a recording studio in Germany, continuing to create and promote inspirational music despite the many challenges of living abroad. Raised as a Catholic, he believes he recognized God’s calling on his life from childhood.
Theme: Faith, Survival, and Divine Grace
His current song, Wonderful God, carries a powerful testimony of divine miracles and survival. According to the artist, there was a point in life when it seemed his journey was coming to an end, but God saved him. The song was inspired by biblical teachings from Proverbs 6:15–16 and reflects his renewed trust and faith in God.
Nana Yeboah believes one of the biggest struggles for Ghanaian musicians is the lack of proper support and promotion within Ghana itself. Despite this challenge, his latest song has received massive airplay and continues to touch lives. Reflecting on his past, he admits he has not always lived perfectly, but says God has continued to show him mercy and grace.
“My testimony to the world is that there is a living God we must take seriously and worship wholeheartedly,” he says. “No one should ever be deceived into believing there is no God.”
Living in Europe while doing gospel music has also come with unique challenges. Nana Yeboah explains that the perception of sin and spirituality in Europe is very different from Africa, making it necessary for gospel musicians abroad to work even harder to stay spiritually grounded and impactful.
For him, gospel music is more than entertainment — it is a tool to heal souls, restore faith, and inspire hope. He believes his music carries a message to the world at all times.
With another song on the way, Nana Yeboah is encouraging Ghanaians to watch out for what’s next. Determined to stand out from trends, he hopes to become a pacesetter in the industry by preserving the authentic highlife elements that define Ghanaian music.
He also has advice for upcoming musicians: create timeless songs that leave behind a lasting legacy.
“Ghanaians should watch out for Nana Yeboah,” he says confidently. “I am a walking piece of art. My new song is doing amazingly well, and there is more to come.”
