“Walk” Could Be Bawumia’s Next Campaign Anthem, Says NPP Communicator

A member of the Greater Accra Regional communication team for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Akwasi Frimpong, has revealed plans to recommend Joseph Matthew’s soaring gospel hit “Walk” as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s official campaign song for the 2028 elections.
Political campaign songs have long been woven into the fabric of Ghana’s electoral theatre. From the moment the NPP embraced Cindy Thompson’s stirring “Awurade Kasa” during the pivotal 2000 general elections, music has served as both rallying cry and emotional soundtrack at political gatherings. The tradition reached fever pitch ahead of the 2008 polls when Daddy Lumba’s Appietus-produced anthem “Nana Ye Winner” swept the nation, becoming an inescapable earworm that blurred the line between entertainment and political mobilisation. Since then, both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have routinely commissioned or adopted campaign tracks to set the tone for major contests.
Dr Bawumia himself leaned into this tradition during the 2024 presidential race, weaving King Paluta’s uplifting hits “Aseda” and “Makoma” into his campaign playlist. Now, attention is turning to the next cycle—and to a fresh gospel offering that some within the NPP believe could define the party’s musical identity once more.
Masterfully produced by acclaimed sound engineer Francis Osei, “Walk” was crafted as far more than a conventional gospel single. It is an immersive audible journey—designed as both a spiritual companion and a musical guide—intended to carry listeners through the rest of the year with grace, confidence, and purpose. Its polished production, resonant message, and anthemic quality have already caught the ear of party communicators.
Speaking on Hot 93.9FM’s *Hot Morning Drive*, Akwasi Frimpong made a clear case for the track’s elevation. “You have been playing Joseph Matthew’s song ‘Watch’ every day… I have listened to it carefully and realised that it’s a great song Dr Bawumia must use for his campaign for the 2028 election,” he told the host. Frimpong argued that the song’s lyrical depth and high production values align seamlessly with Dr Bawumia’s message and broader mission as the party looks toward 2028. He went further, urging every member of the New Patriotic Party to download the song, absorb its message, and carry it forward.
Whether “Walk” ultimately becomes the official soundtrack of a Bawumia campaign remains to be seen. What is already clear is that the age-old Ghanaian tradition of marrying music and politics continues to evolve and that Joseph Matthew’s latest release has entered the conversation with notable force.
